Salmon Bay is a Kindergarten through 8th grade alternative school in the Ballard neighborhood. Salmon Bay’s parent group actively redeveloped the beautiful landscape around the school which requires seasonal attention. Additionally the parent group is spearheading a project to improve their playground as a result of removal of no-longer-serviceable play equipment last fall. The playground does include play equipment for older children, but it is too challenging for younger children. As part of the project, the playground committee is focusing on the needs of children with autism (ASD), which is unique in our district, if not entire Washington. To date, the committee has held three community meetings to gather input to develop a conceptual master plan. The committee has submitted grant applications for Phase 1. The project description is: volunteers will help tend the landscape (weed, prune, mulch) and begin some of the game line painting towards the playground project. A serpentine number line will be created to appeal to students with and without ASD. Colors will be added to other existing and new game lines.

Cost: There is a $30 per person cost--it goes to support Seattle Works Day (you will also receive a T-Shirt and entrance to the after-party).
