Rebecca Buckwalter-Poza (NC '09)
Rebecca Buckwalter-Poza (NC '09) currently works for Progressive Media, a project of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, from Cambridge, MA, where she is completing her long-delayed undergraduate degree in Government from Harvard College. During the 2008 U.S. presidential election, she served as Deputy National Press Secretary of the Democratic National Committee, earning the title of "Queen of the Inbox" from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and being dubbed a "Name I Never Want to See Again" by the Daily Beast.
Previously, Rebecca served as Director of Special Projects at Progressive Accountability of the Center for American Progress and Media Matters and spent three years doing policy analysis, opposition research, and communications work in the Office of James Carville for domestic and international political projects. Since 2005, Rebecca has contributed to progressive political campaigns on four continents, including the presidential election in Nigeria and the parliamentary election in Ukraine in 2007.
This year, Rebecca celebrated the publication of James Carville’s latest book, 40 More Years: How Democrats Will Rule the Next Generation, marking her first "with" title credit as a writer. In 2008, she led research for Paul Begala's Third Term: Why George W. Bush ♥ John McCain. Rebecca is currently working on a book project on race and politics with political commentator Donna Brazile and reviews manuscripts for Berrett-Koehler Publishers. Rebecca has been published in The Nation and blogged for The Wonk Room.
Rebecca keeps a toe in Washington through her work for the Center for American Progress and her work with Americans for American Values, of the Institute for America's Future. She is a Harry S. Truman Scholar (NC '09) and was named one of "America's Next Top Role Models" by Glamour in 2008. Rebecca first became involved in politics in Durham, North Carolina, her hometown.
